The DPI Wisconsin Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired (WCBVI)  is currently seeking applicants for a full-time Education Director position for the operation of the WCBVI Outreach Program. The WCBVI Statewide Outreach Program has the responsibility of overseeing the provision of programs and services to families, Local Education Agencies (LEAs), Cooperative Educational Service Agencies (CESAs) and other agencies serving children who are blind or have low vision, including those with additional disabilities, birth to 21 years of age.  The headquarters for this position is located at WCBVI, 1700 West State Street, Janesville, WI.

Position Summary:

This position provides statewide leadership and supervision in the continuous improvement, design and implementation of outreach services for students who are blind or have low vision throughout Wisconsin.  The Outreach Director oversees all Material and Production processes and services, as well as the American Printing House for the Blind and Visually Impaired Repository and Technology Loan Program. In addition, responsibilities include supervising Outreach departmental personnel, while also overseeing the successful implementation of all WCBVI Short Course programs. Considerable travel is required.

The selection process for this position will include a criminal background check.

At the time of appointment, applicant must have possession of or eligibility for certification as an Administrator by the State Department of Public Instruction (DPI) or eligibility for certification as an Instructional Administrator by the Wisconsin Technical College System. (Possible licenses through the DPI include: Principal (#5051), School District Administrator or Superintendent (#5003), Director of Instruction (#5010), Director of Special Education and Pupil Services (#5080).)

Qualifications:

A minimally qualified applicant must have:

  • Experience implementing state and federal regulations (IDEA legislation) regarding special education services for students with visual impairments and application of the Least Restrictive Environment in the Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) for students with visual impairments,

·        Experience teaching students with visual impairments including the teaching of instructional and assistive technology, and orientation and mobility; and,

·         Experience communicating with parents, educators and other stakeholders regarding the educational and communication needs of students with vision loss.
